The man shot dead by D.C. police officers Monday night has been identified as a 20-year-old from Maryland.

Police named him as Michael E. Epps, of Windsor Mill, near Baltimore.

Epps fired a gun and ignored orders to drop it, police said Monday.

The incident occurred about 7 p.m. in the 5300 block of Clay Terrace NE, according to D.C. police spokeswoman Gwen Crump.
