Man shot in Old Town Alexandria

A man was shot and seriously wounded Thursday night near townhouses in a north Old Town Alexandria neighborhood, police said.

The shooting happened in the 1200 block of Wythe Street about 10:30 p.m., said Ashley Hildebrandt, an Alexandria police department spokeswoman. Police found the victim in a courtyard area between rows of brick townhouses.

He was taken to a hospital with potentially life threatening injuries, she said.

Police released no immediate information about a potential suspect or motive for the shooting.
