Man shot on New York Avenue

A man was shot and wounded near a major commuter road during evening rush Wednesday, D.C. police said.

Officers found the man in the unit block of New York Avenue, just off of North Capitol Street, about 6 p.m., said Officer Paul Metcalf, a spokesman.

The victim, who was conscious and breathing, was taken to a hospital but his injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

It was not clear what prompted the shooting.
