This post has been updated.

A man who was shot in the chest Tuesday evening in Northeast Washington has died, marking the District’s second homicide of 2012, police said.

Shortly after 6 p.m., the victim was shot multiple times in the 1500 block of 45th Street NE.

The victim was found semi-conscious but breathing, Officer Paul Metcalf, a police spokesman, said.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died later that night. The victim’s identity has not been released.

Police said there is no information currently available on possible suspects or a motive in the shooting.

Tuesday’s fatal shooting is the second homicide of the year in the District.

The first homicide victim of the year was Leroy Studevant, 56, of the District.

Studevant was discovered unconscious near a creek in the 4200 block of Hunt Place NE about 8 a.m. Saturday. Police said the cause of death was strangulation and blunt force trauma.
