Prince William County police are investigating the death of a 29-year-old Manassas man who died after he was subdued with a Taser.

Debro Lamonte Wilkerson was being treated by paramedics Saturday afternoon when he became disorderly, police spokesman Jonathan L. Perok said. The paramedics called the police, who used a Taser to subdue Wilkerson. Wilkerson was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

Wilkerson was staying at his sister’s house, in the 11000 block of Hiram Court in Manassas. He had just taken a shower and said he felt like he was having a heart attack, said his brother-in-law, Tammie Fitts. Wilkerson’s pulse was racing, and his niece called 911.

After the paramedics arrived and started treating Wilkerson, who was in his socks and underwear, he became “delusional” and “combative,” Fitts said. Wilkerson tried to flee and police Tasered him three times, according to the family.

“After the last time, he hit the sidewalk and never got back up,” Fitts said.

Police are conducting a criminal and internal investigation. The cause of death is pending an autopsy.
