Md. man dies from injuries suffered when car hit tree

A Maryland man who was injured in a collision with a tree has died, Howard County police reported.

James Dennis Ellis Jr., 72, of Columbia, was injured around 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 29 when he crashed into a tree while driving eastbound in the area of 10400 Little Patuxent Parkway.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed that Ellis was driving too fast for the wet road conditions that evening, and that he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Ellis was the only person in the car.

He was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was initially listed in stable condition.

Ellis died from his injuries six days later, on Thursday.

Police said Ellis’s death is the 10th fatal car crash in Howard County this year and the seventh death in which the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
