Md. motorcyclist dies in collision with Calvert sheriff’s office cruiser

A 31-year-old North Beach man died in a Wednesday night crash with a sheriff’s office cruiser in St. Leonard, Calvert County authorities said.

Members of the county sheriff’s office who responded to the area of Broomes Island Road near Mackall Road at about 8:11 p.m. found a cruiser with front end damage and a motorcycle on a grass shoulder, authorities said.

Authorities say William David Hammer lost control of his motorcycle and slid across the center line of Broomes Island Road, hitting the front of the cruiser.

Hammer was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s deputy who was driving the cruiser suffered minor injuries, authorities said. He was identified in a news release as DFC E. Bradley.

Police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call (410) 535-2800.
