A Circuit Court judge in Prince George’s County convicted a man who has boxed professionally of first-degree assault for choking and repeatedly punching his wife, State’s Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks said.

Ronald D. Boyd, 31, of Suitland, was convicted Thursday by Circuit Court Judge Maureen Lamasney.

Boyd beat and choked his wife, Theresa Evans, last April after she hugged another man at My Place, a sports bar in the 12100 block of Central Avenue in Mitchellville, authorities said.

Evans, 31, was shot to death seven months, last Oct. 6, as she was getting into her car in front of her Landover home, to go to work, authorities said. No one has been charged in the killing.

Without the testimony of Evans, prosecutors relied on the testimony of a witness to the assault, as well as medical records of the injuries Evans sustained, prosecutors said.

“This is yet another case that clearly demonstrates why we must take incidents of domestic violence so very seriously,” Alsobrooks said.

Boyd is scheduled to be sentenced June 3. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
