Men invade house in Northeast, shoot occupant

Two men, one armed with a gun, broke into a house in Northeast Washington early Wednesday, demanded money from the occupants and shot one of them in the stomach, according to D.C. police.

The incident occurred about 2:20 a.m. in the 1600 block of West Virginia Ave. NE, on the edge of the Trinidad neighborhood.

Officer Araz Alali, a police spokesman, said the men kicked in the front door and confronted four people inside. Alali said that one of the male occupants was shot during the altercation, and was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police had only a scant description of the assailants. They did not disclose what was taken.
