Motorcyclist killed in Beltsville crash

A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday afternoon in a crash on the grounds of the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 1 p.m. at the intersection of Beaver Dam Road and Soil Conservation Road in the Beltsville area of Prince George’s County, said Sgt. David Schlosser, a U.S. Park Police spokesman. Though the area just east of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and just south of Powder Mill Road belongs to the research center, the roads are public and open to anyone, Schlosser said.

The details of the crash are still unclear, but Schlosser said the motorcyclist and a car were involved. He said the motorcyclist was headed north on Soil Conservation Road and the car was headed west on Beaver Dam Road, though it isn’t clear if they collided or the motorcyclist crashed making a defensive maneuver. The driver of the car was not hurt, he said.

Schlosser said he did not yet know the name of the motorcyclist. Updates will be provided as they become available.
