One dead after Monday night crash in Columbia

A man is dead after he turned into on-coming traffic near Columbia’s Snowden Square Shopping Center Monday night and crashed into another car, police said.

The man was driving a 1985 Mercedes southeast on Robert Fulton Drive around 9:45 p.m. and was attempting to turn left onto Commerce Center Drive. He turned into on-coming traffic, colliding with a 2008 Toyota 4 Runner.

The man, whom Howard County police have not yet identified, was the only occupant in the Mercedes. He died from crash-related injuries at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore. Pasadena resident Holli Michele Broerman, 38, was the only occupant of the Toyota. She was treated and released from Baltimore Washington Medical Center, according to police.

Police kept Robert Fulton Drive closed until midnight while they investigated the crash scene. Preliminary results indicate the driver of the Mercedes was at fault in the crash, police said.
