One dead in early morning Pasadena crash

A Baltimore man died in a Thursday morning crash after his vehicle ran into a tree in Pasadena, Anne Arundel police said.

Police said they received several reports of an intoxicated driver shortly before 1 a.m. An officer soon spotted a red Honda minivan swerving on Fort Smallwood Road near Edwin Raynor Boulevard, police said.

When the officer turned on his lights and siren, police said, the driver sped away. At 1:05 a.m., police said, they found it crashed at Mountain Road near Fairwood Road, its driver dead.

The driver was identified as Amon S. Whitee. Police believe excessive speed caused the crash, and continue to investigate whether drugs or alcohol were also factors.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 410-222-8573.
