A Prince George’s County woman is under arrest after burying her stillborn baby in a shallow grave in the woods in Prince William County, authorities announced Monday.
According to police, Lisa Maria Steele, 27, gave birth to a stillborn baby on Sept. 19 in Oxon Hill.
Police said that she moved the baby’s remains to Prince William County and buried them in a shallow grave in a wooded area near the roadway on Sept. 24.
Police became aware of the situation around 1:40 p.m. on Sept. 24 when the resident of a home in the 9300 block of Boley Place in Nokesville called to report that Steele had trespassed on the caller’s property.
Police located Steele in the area and recovered the baby’s body, which was transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
The cause of death remains unknown, police said.
Steele was arrested Nov. 21 and has been charged with prohibition against concealment of a dead body.
Steel is being held on a $5,000 secured bond. A court date is scheduled for Dec. 8.
