Person stabbed near Washington National Cathedral

A serious stabbing occurred late Saturday night near the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral, authorities said.

It occurred about 11:30 p.m. in the 2900 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW, near the intersection with Massachusetts Avenue, and just south of the cathedral grounds.

Based on intial reports from rescue personnel on the scene, it appeared the victim was in serious condition.

Police indicated that they had not made any immediate identification of a suspect in the incident.

No motive was known.

The site is a principal transfer points between bus lines that serve a substantial portion of the city.
