A man found dead atop a tractor-trailer heading southbound on I-95 in Fairfax County Tuesday had apparently committed suicide, Maryland State Police said.
A witness saw the man falling from a Wilson Bridge pedestrian overpass onto the back of a trash truck as it drove down the interstate around 2:30 p.m., police said Wednesday.
The driver immediately called 911 and provided a description of the vehicle and what happened, police said.
The truck drove about 11 miles south of the bridge on I-95, before Virginia State Police stopped it near Exit 166 in Lorton, police said.
The man was found on top of the truck’s canvas-covered trailer, which was filled with trash, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Virginia Medical Examiner ruled the man’s death a suicide and said he suffered trauma to multiple parts of his body, according to police.
