Police close Island Cafe in Petworth after weekend stabbing

A popular Petworth restaurant was shuttered over the weekend after a stabbing left one man injured, D.C. police said.

A fight broke out between two men at Island Cafe on Upshur Street NW about 2 a.m. Saturday. One of the men was stabbed in the stomach.

The restaurant was ordered closed pending a review from the city’s liquor board, according to police. It is expected to remain closed until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
