Police investigate double shooting in Northeast

Two people were shot and wounded in the District early Wednesday on a street in Northeast near the Maryland line and Anacostia Park, according to police.

Officer Araz Alali, a D.C. police spokesman, said the shooting occurred about 1:45 a.m. in the 4400 block of Ponds St., NE. Police said one man was hit the leg and another was struck in the arm.

Both victims were taken to a hospital and treated for injuries police described as non life-threatening. The victims did not give police a description of the shooters.

District police were also investigating another shooting that occurred Tuesday shortly before 9 p.m. in the 1300 block of Southern Ave., SE. Alali said a man was shot in the chest and was taken to a hospital. His injuries were described as serious.

Police had no description of the shooter.
