JESSUP, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a patient at a state mental hospital where two other patients allegedly died at the hands of other residents in just over a year.

Police were called to the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital in Jessup around 8 p.m. Thursday after staff found a male patient dead in his room.

The cause of the man’s death was not immediately known, and investigators are considering all possibilities including homicide.

The man’s name has not been released. Authorities said he was in his thirties and that an autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Earlier this year a 24-year-old patient was charged in the death of his roommate. That slaying came 13 months after another male patient was charged with killing a female patient.
