A man was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in Mount Rainier, and homicide investigators are trying to determine a suspect and motive in the case, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 4:40 a.m. in the 3800 block of 37th Street, authorities said. Mount Rainier Police Capt. James Stoots said officers were called to the scene for reported gunshots and arrived to find a man lying in the roadway. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Stoots said.

Stoots said investigators were working to confirm the man’s identity.
