Police investigate Suitland double shooting

A double shooting in Suitland early Thursday left one person dead, according to police in Prince George’s County, and detectives are trying to determine whether another shooting victim located nearby at about the same time was part of the same altercation.

Police said they were called to the 2900 block of Victory Lane at 4:22 a.m. They found two men shot; one was pronounced dead on the scene. The second man was in critical condition on Thursday morning.

A third victim, a woman, was discovered about 4:30 a.m. at a police station in the District, authorities said. She showed up at the 6th District substation on Pennsylvania Avenue, about five miles from the shooting scene.

D.C. police said the shooting of the woman, who is still alive, was being investigated by Prince George’s County police, and referred questions to that agency.

Corporal Mike Rodriguez, a Prince George’s police spokesman, said detectives were trying to determine whether the woman was shot in Prince George’s County or in the District, and whether her shooting was connecting to the Victory Lane shootings. If she was shot in the District, the case would be transferred to D.C. police.

The death marks the 23rd homicide in the county in 2011.
