An adult male was shot at least once in the chest Friday morning two blocks south of the Congress Heights Metro station in Southeast, according to D.C. police.

Officer Araz Alali, a police spokesman, said an officer responding to reports of shots fired at about 11:15 a.m. in the 3400 block of 13th Place SE found the victim lying outside an apartment complex

He was taken to an area hospital and was reported conscious and breathing at the scene, Alali said. Authorities said no arrests have been made.

It is the second shooting on that block since June 11, when police said 26-year-old Brian Dewayne Bloomfield of Southeast was killed. Police arrested a 20-year-old man in that shooting in August, and court documents described it as a brutal attack by several men involving a knife, a vodka bottle and a gun.

Detectives also are investigating a serious shooting that occurred about 10 p.m. Thursday in the 4200 block of East Capitol St. SE. Alali said a n adult woman was shot in the chest.

Alali said the shooting occurred inside an apartment after the victim got into an argument with an adult male who “produced a handgun and shot the complainant in the chest.” He ran away and is being sought, Alali said.

Police said the woman was conscious and breathing at the scene and was alive as of early Friday afternoon.
