Officers responded to a report of a shooting in a Target store in Fairfax shortly after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Fairfax County police said.

A woman was transported to the hospital in an unknown condition, said Lucy Caldwell, a police spokesman. Caldwell said there does not appear to be a threat to the public following the incident in the 10300 block of New Guinea Road.

The circumstances of the reported shooting were not immediately available and police continue to investigate, Caldwell said. The woman was found shot in the back of the store, according to police.

There will be an increased police presence in the area for some time to come, Caldwell said.
