Police say woman in Northeast sexually assaulted

D.C. police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault of a woman to whom he gave a ride home last week, according to authorities.

Maurice Spears of Northeast Washington was charged with assault with intent to commit a first-degree sex offense. D.C. Superior Court on-line records show that Spears has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday.

Police said the attack occurred Jan. 10 when the suspect offered an adult female a ride home. Police said the woman did not know the suspect, and the circumstances of how they met were not divulged.

Police said the woman accepted the ride to her residence in Northeast Washington, where “the suspect was let into the victim’s apartment.” Police said the woman was then attacked, and she called police for help.

Police arrested Spears on Friday.
