Police: Thief cuts hole in wall to rob ATM

A thief cut a hole in a wall behind an ATM, broke into the machine, and then made off with an undisclosed sum of cash Monday in Fairfax Station, police said.

The unusual crime was discovered after a man entered the location in the 5600 block of Ox Road and noticed a smell of something burning, Fairfax police said. The thief had severed several wires while cutting the wall, police said.

Police were called to the scene around 4:30 a.m. Monday.

Police are trying to identify a suspect in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Fairfax County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
