Police: Woman made up abduction story

A woman who reported being abducted by men in a white van as she walked down a Merrifield area street last week made the story up, Fairfax County police said.

The 26-year-old claimed she was walking along Arlington Boulevard near Gallows Road around 11 p.m. on Sept. 12 when the van pulled up next to her and a man forced her in, police said. After the van took off, the woman said she was assaulted and fought back against the assailants, who eventually pushed her out of the vehicle, police said.

The woman reported the attack the next day after being treated for her injuries, police said. The woman told police she did not know the men.

Fairfax County police now believe the woman was assaulted during a domestic dispute. Detectives are still investigating where the assault took place and whether to place charges.
