Students at the University of Maryland were warned early Saturday to stay indoors while police investigated a report that someone with a weapon might be nearby. Within minutes, however, the alert was lifted, and the campus was told that the person was no longer nearby.. .

The university’s public safety department issued an alert around 1:30 a.m. reported on the preesence of a “possible armed suspect” near Campus Drive and Baltimore Avenue. The alert was lifted about 15 minutes later when it was reported that the suspect . “was no longer in the area.”

Details were not available immediately. However at one point recipients of the alert were warned not to go outside.
