Pr. George’s judge sentences murderer to 80 years in prison

A Circuit Court judge in Prince George’s sentenced an Oxon Hill man to 80 years in prison Friday for a murder he committed almost a year ago, State’s Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks said.

A county jury convicted John H. Dunn, 28, of the murder of Brian Grant, 22. The sentence was imposed by Circuit Court Judge Leo E. Green Jr.

On Aug.12, 2010, county police went to 1000 Marcy Ave. in Oxon Hill for a report of a shooting, authorities said. Police found Grant dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Two witnesses to the shooting testified for the state at Dunn’s trial, prosecutors said. Their testimony was corroborated by footage from a surveillance camera, authorities said.

“This case demonstrates why we need residents to come forward when they have been a witness to a crime or violence,” Alsobrooks said. “We are much more successful in our prosecutions when the community collaborates with us to hold offenders accountable for their actions.”
