Pr. George’s police officer charged with DUI

A Prince George’s County police officer was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he was pulled over in St. Mary’s County Tuesday night, authorities said.

Cpl. Derrick Neumer, a patrol officer in District IV who has been on the department for 13 years, was off duty and not driving a county police cruiser when he was arrested, Prince George’s police said in a news release. His police powers have been suspended while Prince George’s County internal affairs detectives probe the incident, police said.

Capt. Steve Yuen, a Prince George’s police spokesman, said Neumer has been suspended with pay.

Maryland State Police officials said Neumer was pulled over just before 11 p.m. near the intersection of Route 5 and Mechanicsville Road in Mechanicsville after a trooper saw him speeding. They said the trooper smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Neumer, but they could not provide any more details until a press release was issued later Wednesday or early Thursday.
