A Prince William County school bus driver was charged with reckless driving after causing a crash Tuesday afternoon that injured nine students, county police said.

Veronica Ofelia Espinosa, 37, of the 8700 block of Virginia Pine Court in Fredericksburg, was driving northbound on Bethlehem Road approaching Sudley Manor Drive around 2:10 p.m. on a return trip from Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, police said. Espinosa “disregarded” the stop sign at the intersection and made a right turn into the path of a 1999 GMC truck, according to police.

Nine students between the ages of 14 and 18 and Espinosa were transported to a hospital after reporting minor injuries.

The driver will be assigned to other duties pending the outcome of the case, said school system spokesman Philip Kavits.
