Pr. George’s teacher accused of sexually assaulting 13-year-old student

A Prince George’s County social studies teacher has been charged with second-degree sex offense and other related counts after he was accused of repeatedly sexual assaulting a 13-year-old female student over a yearlong period, authorities said.

Garnold Maurice King, 48, is accused of assaulting the girl both on and off the grounds of Fort Washington’s Isaac Gourdine Middle School during a period stretching from September 2011 to June 2012, authorities said. King was a social studies teacher at the school, and the girl was one of his students, police said. He was moved to Thurgood G. Marshall Middle School this semester, authorities said.

Police said King was arrested Dec. 6, after the girl told her mother about the incidents and the mother contacted police. He has since been released on a $125,000 bond, police said.

A Prince George’s County schools spokesman said King has been placed on paid administrative leave, and school officials were working with police.
