Prince William police search for man possibly linked to two crimes

Prince William County police are searching for a man who could be involved in both an attempted rape case and a burglary at a Woodbridge apartment complex.

Police responded about 1 a.m. Thursday to the 1800 block of Gableridge Turn for the report of a burglary in progress. About six hours later, officers were called again to the Summerland Heights Apartments, this time by a 38-year-old woman who said she woke up to an unknown man who proceeded to touch her inappropriately before fleeing.

Police said the first event was reported by a woman and man in their twenties. The two said they were sleeping when the dog began to bark. The two got up and found a man in the living room who apparently had entered through an unlocked window. When he saw them, he fled.

Around 7 a.m. the victim in the attempted rape contacted police. She said the man approached her with a kitchen knife and demanded that she take of her clothes, police said. It appears he also entered through an unlocked window.

Police said the victims in both cases described the person as a black man between 20 and 30 years old and close to 6 feet tall. The victims said he was about 180 to 250 pounds. One victim said the man was wearing a “ski-style” mask and another said he was wearing a black skull cap.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Solvers at 703-670-3700 or 1-866-411-TIPS. Callers do not have to leave a name and could receive a $1,000 reward.
