A restaurant customer was bitten by a rabid skunk last week in Southern Maryland, authorities said..

The St. Mary’s County health department said Monday that the incident occurred June 14 at a “food service establishment” in the community of California.

Neither the patron nor the establishment were identified.

It was not clear where the customer was when bitten, or what the circumstances were.

The health deprtment said it was the sixth animal in the county to test positive for rabies.

Two of the other five were skunks and three were raccoons.

The health department urged residents to vaccinate pets and avoid contact with wild animals that display unusual or aggressive behavior.
