Rape, assault charges for man in Suitland attacks

A 19-year-old man has been charged with rape and assault in a string of sex attacks police say happened in Suitland on Thursday.

Police say Curtis Lee Sargent Jr., of no fixed address, stopped a man on Suitland Road about 3 a.m. and asked him for directions. He then showed a handgun, demanded money and told the man to go to a nearby park, where he allegedly sexually assaulted him.

About 40 minutes later, police said, Sargent approached two women, displayed a handgun and sexually assaulted one of them. She escaped, according to police, and Sargent then assaulted the second woman.

The first woman called police, and officers eventually found a man matching their description and recovered a handgun.

Police say they are not releasing a photo of Sargent while they investigate whether he may be connected to other crimes.
