Riverdale man charged with killing housemate

Police have charged a Riverdale man who they say shot his housemate, then left him for dead earlier this week in their shared home on Kenilworth Avenue, authorities said.

Kobina Ebo Abruquah, 40, whose last name is also spelled as Abruguah in court records, was charged with first-degree murder and other related counts in the slaying of Ivan Alvaro Aguirre-Herrera, authorities said. Aguirre-Herrera, 40, was found fatally shot Wednesday inside his home in the 6200 block of Kenilworth Avenue after police were called to check on his welfare, authorities said.

Cpl. Larry Johnson, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said Abruquah and Aguirre-Herrera lived together, though it remains unclear what prompted the shooting. Police said in a news release that detectives interviewed Abruquah Friday.

Online court records show that the two housemates had a troubled past with each other. Each man had sought a peace order against the other earlier this year, and Aguirre-Herrera was charged with failing to comply with the one Abruquah had sought against him, the records show. The records are not clear as to what the status of the orders were at the time of the shooting.
