Robber shoots cab driver

A taxi driver was shot in Prince George’s County Tuesday afternoon when a bearded passenger in shorts and a t-shirt tried to rob him, county police said.

They said the driver suffered a nonlife-threatening wound in the shooting, which occurred about 2 p.m. near the Cooper Lane elementary school in the Landover Hills area.

The passenger was picked up at the New Carrollton Metro station and asked to be taken to the school, which is in the 3800 block of Cooper Lane, near Annapolis Road. After getting there, he asked to be driven to the rear of the school.

The driver declined to take him there and was shot after refusing the robber’s demand for money, police said.

Police said they were looking for a black man about 20 to 25 who was wearing a black t shirt and khaki shorts. He had a full beard, they said.
