Search in Potomac for missing sailboat

A search was going on early Tuesday in the Potomac River for a sailboat that was reported in distress, authorities said.

The U.S. Coast Guard said the boat, with three people on board, was reported about 11:30 p.m. Monday taking on water in the river near the Route 301 bridge.

The search involved the Coast Guard, which sent a helicopter and at least one boat, as well as rescue personnel from Virginia and Maryland.

The site is about 50 miles south of the District .
