Silver Spring man charged with assaulting U. Md. student

A 28-year-old Silver Spring man was charged Wednesday with burglarizing a University of Maryland dorm this week and sexually assaulting a female student, campus police said.

Investigators arrested Oluwafemi T. Charles in a break-in of a residence on the 7th floor of Cumberland Hall on the College Park campus early Sunday, officials said in a statement.

Authorities said Charles entered the room of an 18-year-old female student in an attempt to steal property, which was not identified. Once inside, police said Charles touched the student without her consent.

Authorities charged Charles with a fourth-degree sex offense, second-degree assault, three counts of burglary and two counts of theft, the statement said.
