‘Small pipe bomb’ probed at College Park home

Fire investigators are probing what they say was a “small pipe bomb” that exploded on the porch of a home in College Park on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The device, which blew up just before 2 a.m., caused minimal damage to the home in the 8800 block of 48th Avenue, authorities said. No one was hurt.

Fire officials declined to release other details about the device and the home where it exploded.

WJLA reported that a small explosive device was also found outside a police station in Northeast Washington on Tuesday and detonated by authorities. It remains unclear whether the cases are related.
