Sources: 60-year-old man was shot to death

The state medical examiner has determined the 60-year-old man found dead May 30 near a tire store in Chillum was shot to death, law enforcement sources familiar with the case said.

Edward J. Scott, of Northwest D.C., was found lying unconscious in the 900 block of Chillum Road in the Chillum area about 8:30 a.m. May 30, authorities had said.

A law enforcement source had said the man had obvious trauma to the body that appeared to be a stab wound. The medical examiner later determined the incident was a shooting, law enforcement sources said.

Police have not yet made any arrests in the case, and they have not yet definitively determined a motive — though robbery is among those being explored, law enforcement sources said. The sources said Scott drove a cab and was known to hang out in the area where he was found slain.

The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized police spokesmen. Cpl. Mike Rodriguez, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said Monday that he could not provide any updates on the case.
