Stolen car being chased by police crashes into D.C. fire truck

A stolen car being pursued by a U.S. Park Police officer Friday morning crashed into a fire truck on M Street in Southwest Washington, according to authorities.

Sgt. Paul Brooks, a department spokesman, said the driver escaped.

Police said an officer spotted the vehicle about 9:30 a.m. on South Capitol Street near the Southeast Freeway. Brooks said the driver refused to stop and the officer chased it four blocks heading south on Capitol.

At M Street, two blocks north of Nationals Park, Brooks said the stolen car hit a D.C. fire truck. He said the driver got out and ran away. No injuries were reported. Brooks said he did not know the type of car that as being pursued.
