D.C. police have identified the suspect in Wednesday’s fatal shooting and eight-hour standoff as 23-year-old Derrick Babb of Southeast Washington.

Babb is accused of shooting 24-year-old J’Ron Lamar Brown shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesdsay morning in an apartment in the 1700 block of 17th Street SE. Police said that Babb then fled to another apartment nearby, and barricaded himself inside for several hours.

Brown was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A SWAT team was called to assist local authorities.

Babb was taken into custody around 10 a.m. He has been charged with second-degree murder.
