Suspect sought in attempted in rape

A man dragged a woman into a wooded area in Montgomery Village Monday and attempted to rape her before he was scared off by a passing bicyclist, Montgomery County police said.

The woman was attacked around 12:15 a.m. as she was walking on a Montgomery Village Avenue sidewalk near Stewarton Road, according to police. She had noticed someone following her shortly before the incident began.

The victim, 23, began to yell and scream after the suspect pulled her into the woods, police said. A bicyclist riding by the wood line startled the suspect and he fled, according to police.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 200 to 225 pounds and 5’06” to 5’08” tall. The man has short black hair and brown eyes and may be between 33 and 36 years old.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case or suspect to call (240) 773-5070.
