Thieves smashed the windows of dozens of cars and took an assortment of items in the Centreville area in the early hours of Thursday morning, Fairfax County police said.

Thieves targeted more than 40 cars and made off with GPS units, iPods, sunglasses and loose change between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday, police said. The thieves smashed passenger side windows and rummaged through glove boxes, police said.

The incidents occurred on Bent Tree Circle, Little Rocky Run, Summer Tree Road, Glade Spring Drive and Cider Barrel Circle, police said.

Authorities did not release a description of the suspects or additional details about the crimes.
