Third arrest in 2010 Southeast D.C. murder

A third suspect has been arrested in a year-old Southeast Washington homicide case, authorities said.

Corey Yates, 22, of Southeast, was charged with first-degree murder for his role in the killing of 29-year-old Darrel Hendy. Hendy was found fatally shot Sept. 25, 2010, in the 800 block of Southern Avenue.

D.C. police had previously arrested 18-year-old Meeko Carraway in October and 36-year-old Chamontae Walker in April. Both have been charged with first-degree murder in Hendy’s death.

According to an indictment handed up in June by a D.C. Superior Court grand jury, Walker allegedly told the other two suspects that Hendy, a former friend, was trying to kill him. The indictment alleges that the three plotted to murder Hendy, then fled to North Carolina to evade law enforcement.

A jury trial is scheduled for February, according to court documents.
