Three dead in Prince George’s over weekend in separate incidents

Prince George’s police are probing three incidents over the weekend that resulted in the deaths of three people.

Spokesman Cpl. Clinton Copeland said police have no suspects or a motive in the shooting death of an adult man at 6:40 p.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of Kanawha Street in the Langley Park area.

Police also are investigating a pedestrian death that a spokesman said may have been accidental, even thought it appeared to stem from an attempted robbery just before 1 a.m. Sunday in Fairmount Heights. Several masked suspects armed with handguns had ordered several people to lie down on the ground in the 1200 block of Oates Street, and a car operated by a woman who police believe was startled ran over one of the victims, Copeland said.

In the third incident, a tow truck hit a woman who was crossing the street at the intersection of University Boulevard and Riggs Road in the Langley Park area, a community where police and public officials in recent years have stepped up efforts to decrease accidents involving pedestrians and drivers. An adult woman died in the incident. Police believe a second, dark colored vehicle also may have struck the woman, but fled the scene.

Police are notifying next of kin in all three incidents, Copeland said, before releasing names of victims.
