Three people are dead from a crash in Springfield, including two men in a pickup truck that veered across a median, police said.

Fairfax County police investigators are trying to learn why the Toyota truck traveling west on Backlick Road ending up in the eastbound lanes, Officer Tawny Wright said. The truck struck a Jeep Cherokee and an Oldsmobile, she said.

Two men inside the truck - the driver and a passenger - were dead at the scene. A woman driving the Jeep was later pronounced dead at a hospital, Wright said.

The wreck occurred around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Police are investigating if speed or alcohol played a role in the crash, she said.
