Two students were shot with a pellet gun outside Rocky Run Middle School in Chantilly Friday morning, but neither was seriously injured, Fairfax County school officials said.

The students, a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, were struck as about 100 students were re-entering the south side of the school building, following a last day of school activity, according to Fairfax County police and John Torre, a Fairfax County schools spokesman. Police said the incident occurred around 10 a.m.

Both victims were taken to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, police said.

Police said officers began a search and within 30 minutes four teenagers believed to have been involved in the incident were apprehended. They said the investigation is continuing and charges are pending. The suspects did not attend Rocky Run school, police said.

Police also said they recovered a pellet gun they think was used in the incident.

The school, in the 4400 block of Stringfellow Road, briefly was on ”secure the building” status, which means that the exterior doors were locked but students and teachers were free to move around inside, Torre said.
