Two hurt after vehicle crashes into apartment

A Riverdale woman sustained head and other injures after a vehicle crashed into her apartment early Sunday morning, throwing her from her bed, authorities said.

The 37-year-old woman was sleeping in her apartment in the 6800 block of Riverdale Road when the vehicle came barreling through her bedroom window about 3:35 a.m., said Sgt. Sonya Rorls, a Prince George’s County police spokeswoman. She said the woman, who was flung from her bed during the collision, was hospitalized with head and other injuries but released later in the morning.

Rorls said the driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old woman who lived in the same building, told investigators she was just returning home and pulling into a parking spot when her “brakes gave out.” The woman was also hospitalized after she complained of chest pains, Rorls said.

Rorls declined to identify the driver, saying she had not been charged with a crime. She said investigators are still probing whether drugs or alcohol might have played a role in the crash.
