Two killed in crashes in Prince George’s County

Two people were killed and two were injured in separate overnight crashes in Prince George’s County, police said.

A Buick LeSabre traveling north on Harry S. Truman Drive ran off the road and hit a tree around 11 p.m. Monday near the intersection with New Orchard Drive in Largo, said Cpl. Evan Baxter, a Prince George’s County police spokesman.

The driver, 19-year-old Kerel Cheeks, of Upper Marlboro, was killed and an 18-year-old man who was a passenger in the car was seriously injured, Baxter said. Baxter said speed appears to be a factor in causing the crash.

In the second accident, one person was killed and another was hurt when their motorcycle was involved in a collision near the intersection of Central Avenue and West Hampton Avenue around 1:30 a.m., Baxter said.

One of the riders was pronounced dead at the scene and the second was transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries, Baxter said.
