Two killed, including 1 child, in Fairfax City crash

Two people were killed and two more were seriously injured in a car crash in Fairfax City late Tuesday night.

According to police, a car traveling east on Lee Highway sideswiped another vehicle, then hit a minivan. It happened about 11 p.m. near Jermantown Road.

The driver of the car, a woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two children, 8 and 6 years old, were taken to a local hospital, where the 8-year-old died, police said. The condition of the 6-year-old was described as critical, but no details were available Wednesday morning.

The driver of the minivan was also injured and hospitalized, but is expected to survive.

The crash remains under investigation and police have not released a cause for the crash..
